In the mid-1970s, Australian rock bands were known for their rough, raw and raucous live shows, but in the past decade, the country has been on the lookout for new, wild sound.
The country’s new breed of bands, including the Wild Mountain and Atlas Mountains, have been popping up across the country, creating a wave of excitement and potential success.
These bands, whose names are not published by the artists, are in the wild and ready to go.
“It’s been a pretty interesting year,” says Tom Rundle, head of production at Atlas Mountains.
“I don’t think it’s ever been this active in Australia in the same time period, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the scene develops.”
The Atlas Mountains band was formed in the mid 2000s.
Their debut album, Black Mountain, was released in 2013.
In 2017, the band released a follow-up, Wild Mountain.
The Wild Mountain group is led by singer-songwriter and producer Chris McEwan, who was born in the New South Wales town of Middelton.
McEwin’s brother, Josh, was born and raised in the Middelsons and is also an artist.
“The music has been so unique, and the way the songs were crafted was so unique,” McEwen says.
“There’s a real sense of authenticity.
It’s very exciting to hear a band that was born to be that way.”
The Wild Mountains are also known for releasing their first album, Wild Country, in 2015.
The band is made up of former members of the band Atlas Mountains and the band Wild Mountain who also have a younger sister, Tessa, who is currently in the US.
“Tessa was just coming out of university at the time,” McEnroe says.
“It was a really strange and challenging time for her to be in a band with a bunch of musicians she knew from school.”
She got in touch with the Wild Mountains and they were looking for an Australian band, so Tessa was the perfect choice.
“After years of searching for a band to play live in, McEwins sister Tessa finally got a chance to join the band.”
Chris and Tessa met through our band mates, and they became really good friends,” McEsawens brother Josh says.
After a successful audition, the Wild Mtn band was invited to the Wild Country festival in Melbourne.
The Wild Mountain members then set up a camp in the desert in New South Walsall, and set up an Instagram account.”
We didn’t know any of our fans,” McEllas says.
The camp was filled with fans from around the world.”
Every band has a small core of people that they’re friends with and that is really important for a group of people,” McEpawens sister Tasha says.
The band was soon invited to play a concert in Sydney, but they couldn’t attend due to the festival.”
They weren’t in the mood,” McElwains brother Josh tells ABC News.”
So they asked if we could go to Sydney, and we did, and it was a blast.
“There was a crowd out the back and we got to see the world through the lens of Tessa.”
McEllas is proud of his sister and her music.
“Tom is so keen to see a band grow,” McGlays sister Tiana says.”[Tom] knows what he’s doing and he’s really passionate about it.”
He has such a passion for the art of making music that he knows that he has to be at his best and not get in his head all the time.
“To be able to do that, and to play his music live, it’s something that he’s going to be really proud of.”
